The Silent Weight of Going Online — Behind Every Handmade Creation
There’s a part of running a handmade business that no one talks about.
Not the pretty photos. Not the “new arrival” captions.
I’m talking about the quiet moments before you press “post.”
That second when your finger hovers above the button, and your stomach knots—because once it’s out there, the world can see it. And once the world can see it… they can judge it.
The Fear You Don’t See
Behind every scrunchie, bow, or piece of jewelry, there’s an invisible thread of fear.
What if they don’t like it?
What if they think it’s not “worth it” because it’s not mass-produced and dirt cheap?
What if my work is compared to something factory-made, perfect in its sameness, but lifeless in its soul?
When you create something with your own hands, you’re not just putting fabric together or molding clay. You’re putting a piece of yourself into it—your time, your ideas, your mistakes, your small triumphs. Posting it online isn’t just about showing a product. It’s about exposing a part of your heart to strangers.
The Misunderstanding
Mass production has trained people to expect fast, flawless, and cheap.
Handmade is the opposite—slow, intentional, imperfect in the most beautiful way.
But not everyone sees that. Some only see a price tag. Some don’t see the nights you stayed up perfecting a pattern or the mornings you woke up early to catch the good light for photos.
And when someone dismisses it with a casual, “Too expensive,” or “I can get this cheaper elsewhere,” it doesn’t just hurt your business—it stings your soul.
The Extra Weight of Being an Introvert
For me, creating this blog and website wasn’t just a business step—it was a leap into discomfort. As an introvert, putting myself out there is like standing under a spotlight when you’d rather be in the quiet corner of the room. I’ve often wondered, Is it worth it? Who will even read this?
But then I remember… I started this journey in 2021. And every single person who stopped to support—whether by truly seeing the heart behind my work or simply making a purchase—has contributed to where I am today. Maybe some only bought once, maybe a few understood the deeper story… but all of them became part of my path.
The Courage in Every Post
Going online as a handmade creator means choosing courage every single day. It means risking silence where you hoped for support, risking criticism where you hoped for praise. And still, we do it. Because the joy of seeing someone wear or use something we made—knowing it came from our hands to their life—is worth the trembling before the “post” button.
If You See Us
If you follow a handmade artist—know that every like, every comment, every share is a thread that keeps us going. We don’t just create products. We create stories, little worlds stitched, carved, or painted into reality.
I still wish handmade work, in general, received more recognition. Not just my shop—any handmade shop. Because behind each creation, there’s a human pouring love, patience, and a piece of their soul into something the world can touch.
Thank you for being part of my story. Even if you didn’t know it—you’ve kept it alive.
